Description
The ancient convent of Santa Catalina de Siena, a majestic jewel of the XVI century, named Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, is home to 91 suites, which were the bedrooms of the Dominican nuns, all different from each other, either in their distribution, size or decoration, but with all the comforts.
Inside there are five patios or gardens, the most representative of which is the Los Lavaderos garden with its octagonal fountain with a quarry dome that shelters a set of stone sinks with wrought iron details that were part of the city's aqueduct. Its corridors hold original frescoes and works of art. The beautiful heated swimming pool, located in another courtyard next to La Capilla lounge, is the perfect place to relax.
The restaurant El Refectorio offers traditional Oaxacan cuisine and some international dishes. The interior lounge is decorated with large 17th century paintings and a wall with 365 earthenware jars. On the other hand, the Bar Novicias, an old room full of bookcases, quinqués and paintings, has a cellar with 101 mezcals, from 25 mezcal houses and made from different types of agave.
